The Academic Royalties Lead is an important role in the organisation, ensuring that our authors are paid correctly and promptly in accordance with contract terms. The role sits within the Finance Global Payments team.
About The Role
The Academic Royalties Lead is responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate and efficient loading of Academic royalties contracts into the royalties system, enabling contract certainty and ensuring authors are paid correctly and on time in accordance with contractual terms.
The role plays a key part in maintaining data integrity within the royalties process, supporting financial control, and providing a central point of expertise for Academic royalties queries. It also works closely with Editorial and Finance stakeholders to improve processes, reduce risk, and drive continuous improvement across royalties operations.

It also works closely with Editorial and Finance stakeholders to improve processes, reduce risk, and drive continuous improvement across royalties operations.
Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:
- The accurate and timely setup of Academic royalty contracts within systems, in line with contractual terms and operational deadlines.
- Maintaining a consistently low value of ‘Sales not in contract' through proactive monitoring, issue resolution and stakeholder engagement.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for Academic royalties queries - providing expert guidance and ensuring timely resolution.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with Editorial teams, including regular update meetings and issue tracking.
- Identifying, challenging and improving existing processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy and controls.
- Ensuring high standards of data accuracy and integrity across large volumes of contract and financial data.
- Prioritising workloads effectively to meet key deadlines and operational milestones.
- Supporting the wider Royalties team and contributing to team objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Undertaking additional duties as required by the Global Assessor & Royalties Controller or Finance SLT.
About You
The ideal candidate for this role will:
- Have previous experience working in a Finance environment.
- Be confident processing large volumes of data quickly and accurately.
- Have intermediate to advance Excel skills, including confident use of pivot tables and lookup functions. Experience with Power Query is highly desirable.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Question current working practices and suggest continuous improvements.
- Be able to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
- Be a team player to work with and support the rest of the team.
