Role Description This is a temporary Afro Dance Choreographer role based in Slough, with a hybrid working arrangement that allows some duties to be performed from home. The Afro Dance Choreographer will design and teach Afro-inspired choreographies for classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances. Day-to-day tasks include planning and structuring dance sessions, selecting music, demonstrating techniques, and providing constructive feedback to dancers of varying experience levels. The role involves collaborating with creative and production teams to develop choreography for media content, live shows, and social platforms. Additional responsibilities include preparing teaching materials, maintaining a safe and inclusive studio environment, attending planning meetings, and occasionally supporting promotional activities or recordings.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in Dance and Afro dance styles, with the ability to perform and demonstrate movements clearly and safely.
  • Proficiency in Choreography and Dance Instruction, including creating original routines and adapting material to different skill levels.
  • Experience or training in Dance Education, with the ability to structure classes, set learning objectives, and assess progress.
  • Good musicality and understanding of Music selection, rhythm, and timing to support dynamic and engaging choreography.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to creating an inclusive, encouraging space for all dancers.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a hybrid model in Slough, including evenings or weekends as needed for classes, rehearsals, or events.
  • Previous experience teaching group classes, workshops, or community projects is highly desirable.
  • Relevant dance qualifications, certifications, or equivalent professional experience in Afro dance or related genres are an advantage.
