Assistant Accountant

Location: Westminster/Home

Hours: Part-time - 2-3 days per week

Salary: £36,000 pro rata


The Role:

We are looking for a detail-orientated and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team based in Westminster. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build on their accounting experience within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the accurate processing of financial transactions, maintaining reconciliations, and assisting with month-end activities. You will also work closely with colleagues across the organisation and liaise with external stakeholders including customers, suppliers, banks and auditors.

This role would suit someone with all-round Finance/Bookkeeping experience, strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and a desire for continuous improvement.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Cashiering and bank reconciliations
  • Download and post bank receipts.
  • Allocate customer payments against invoices.
  • Perform regular bank account reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies where required.
  • Invoicing & financial administration
  • Create and issue sales invoices to customers.
  • Import invoices from external sources into the finance system.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to finance-related queries.
  • Financial reporting
  • Support month-end accounting processes.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
  • Produce ad hoc financial reports, analysis and data summaries.
  • Assist with budget and forecast uploads.
  • Provide wider support to the Finance team as required.


Skills & Experience:

  • You'll be someone who enjoys working with numbers, takes pride in accuracy, and can effectively manage competing priorities.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong Excel skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn and work with financial systems.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative team player with a positive attitude.
  • Some experience of resolving customer or stakeholder queries.


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles.
  • Exposure to core accounting processes and routines.
  • Experience with bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.

Qualifications:

  • AAT Part qualified or fully qualified or equivalent
