Assistant Accountant

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £35-38,000

Contract: Permanent

Working pattern: Full-time, on site


Vargo is supporting a growing Cardiff-based business with the appointment of an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis.


This is a hands-on finance role suited to someone who can take ownership of day-to-day finance, month-end reporting and internal financial controls. The role would suit an ambitious finance professional who is looking for a broad, visible role within a growing business.


Key responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and support month-end close.
  • Manage reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.
  • Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control activity.
  • Produce financial analysis and reporting for senior management.
  • Support VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and robust internal controls.
  • Work closely with operational teams to improve financial visibility.
  • Support process improvements across the finance function.


About You

You will have solid practical finance experience and be comfortable working in an office-based role. Qualified status would be great but is not essential. Study support is available.


You Should Be

  • Confident preparing management accounts or supporting month-end reporting.
  • Comfortable with reconciliations, journals and financial analysis.
  • Organised, accurate and able to manage competing deadlines.
  • Commercially aware and willing to work closely with non-finance colleagues.
  • Keen to develop within a broad Finance Manager position.
