The Mace place shaping team is recruiting an Urban Designer to join their growing business in Manchester, UK. The ideal candidate should either have a strong interest in urban regeneration and community engagement and have 1-3 years post qualification or be a graduate having undertaken an Urban Design Master’s degree. It is important that for this role the candidate has a UK Passport given the sensitivities of some of the early project work.
We expect the candidate to be proficient in REVIT, the Adobe Suite and have additional knowledge of GIS. The candidate should have as excellent graphic communication skills using the Adobe Suite.

You’ll Be Responsible For
- Working under the Manchester Urban Design Lead and the Head of Urban Design and working on projects largely between RIBA stages 0-2.
- Providing design support in a variety of project types.
- Preparing graphic support and report production.
- Opportunity to manage small individual projects with support from the team leadership.
- Growing the Mace GIS capability.
- Assisting the Head of Urban Design and the Design Director in the implementation of continuous improvement programmes.
- Seeking out innovative ways of working and identifying research to expand the body of knowledge in the industry.
- Develop early concept models using Autodesk REVIT.
- Interfacing with design teams/designers both within and outside of a specific projects structure.
- Friendly and creative team player, and open to sharing ideas.
- Able to work under pressure, use initiative and manage their time.
- Out of the box thinker and happy to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Excellent drawing and graphic skills, with the ability to produce diagrams, design reports and presentations.
- Knowledge of the UK planning system.
- Excellent written and spoken communication in English, such as report writing.
- Strong REVIT/GIS/Adobe skills.
- Degree in a design field in the built environment and MA/MSc in Urban Design.
