How You Will Make An Impact

As an Automation Engineer, you’ll be central to ensuring our automation equipment operates at the highest standards. You’ll support both day-to-day maintenance and long-term projects, working closely with colleagues and external contractors to keep our processes efficient and reliable.

  • Maintain and develop site automation systems (hardware/software, SCADA, PLC, Variable Speed Drives, instrumentation, electrical control gear).
  • Provide first-line support for automation-related issues and breakdowns.
  • Support capital projects with control and automation expertise.
  • Implement and close out preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Ensure accurate records, backups, and compliance with Health & Safety requirements.

You’ll be part of the engineering department, collaborating with Process Maintenance Engineers and contractors to deliver safe, effective automation solutions.

What will make you successful?

We’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive mindset, ideally holding an HNC/HND in Engineering or an equivalent qualification in electrical, instrumentation or automation disciplines.

The role requires a time‑served apprenticeship in an industrial environment and at least five years of industry experience, with dairy experience being an advantage. You should be skilled in Automation, PLC and SCADA systems—particularly Siemens—and have experience in project management.

Educational background

  • Knowledge gained through formal education with limited experience and/or significant years of relevant work experience (5+ years) gained in the specific technical area combined with technical education.
  • Relevant Maintenance/ Technical/ Engineering education.
  • UK specific HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline with an indentured apprenticeship with individual merits. Arla Foods qualification to Engineering Technician level/NVQ Level 3, Eden Engineer.
