Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit two Building Maintenance Engineers to join our team at Newham School:
- 1 x Electrical Bias Engineer
- 1 x Plumbing Bias Engineer
You will provide an efficient planned and reactive maintenance service across the school estate, ensuring a safe, comfortable and compliant environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Complete fault finding, repairs and first-line maintenance on building services systems.
- Undertake statutory compliance checks and inspections.
- Maintain accurate records using the CAFM system.
- Escort and supervise specialist contractors.
- Report defects, lifecycle issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain plant rooms and engineering areas in a safe and tidy condition.
- Support school operations during examinations, events and holiday shutdowns.
- Ensure all works are completed in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining lighting, emergency lighting and power distribution systems.
- Electrical fault finding and repairs.
- Electrical testing and inspections within competency levels.
- Supporting fire alarm, access control and security systems.
- Monitoring BMS alarms and assisting with HVAC plant maintenance.
- Repairs to taps, toilets, urinals, sinks, showers, valves, pumps and pipework.
- Water hygiene duties including flushing regimes and temperature monitoring.
- TMV inspections and servicing.
- Supporting Legionella compliance in line with ACOP L8.
- Maintaining hot and cold water services and mechanical systems.
Skills & experience:
- Experience working within commercial, education or public sector environments.
- Experience delivering PPM and reactive maintenance.
- Familiarity with CAFM systems and electronic reporting.
- Understanding of SFG20 maintenance standards.
- Strong health and safety awareness.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong electrical fault-finding capability.
- Experience with LV distribution systems and electrical plant.
- Knowledge of emergency lighting systems.
- General building services knowledge including HVAC systems.
- NVQ Level 2 Plumbing (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of ACOP L8 and water hygiene requirements.
- Experience maintaining plumbing and mechanical building services systems.
- Water Hygiene / Legionella qualification desirable.
