Role Summary:

The Business Development Director will drive profitable growth across the full Maximus UK portfolio, identifying, shaping, and securing strategic opportunities across multiple sectors, services, and client segments. The role is accountable for executing cross-portfolio growth strategies, building high-value pipelines, and achieving growth targets by leveraging the breadth of Maximus’ capabilities.


Salary: £98,500 - £129,500


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver in-year revenue, Total Contract Value targets and exit pipeline requirements as agreed with the Managing Director and the Growth leadership team, by building an understanding of cross-portfolio opportunities spanning Maximus UK services, developing integrated solutions aligned to client needs. This includes identifying and cross-selling opportunities by combining capabilities across service lines into cohesive propositions, and formally capturing pipeline and customer contacts within our CRM
  • Contribute as a senior member of the Business Development and Maximus UK Management teams in the formation of strategies and plans (including account prioritisation, sector entry/expansion, and proactive opportunity creation across central government, local government and adjacent markets), whilst ensuring Growth team members have suitable support to enable the delivery of the overall growth targets.
  • Provide leadership and influence across matrix teams, ensuring alignment and mobilisation of the right capabilities to win
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders within Maximus UK and ensure there is a “one team” approach to Business Development throughout the business
  • To put in place business development strategies and plans, aligned to UK & Division strategies, which will achieve short, medium, and long-term profitable growth targets.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Affairs & Marketing and Enterprise Delivery to evolve core propositions to meet the specific needs of differing accounts / opportunities
  • Lead and orchestrate large, complex, multi-service pursuits, ensuring robust qualification, win strategy development, and governance across the full business development lifecycle (early Gates).


Qualifications and/or Experience

  • Proven experience in a growth-focused role
  • Demonstrable Business Development experience in Maximus UK existing and identified new markets, with strategic curiosity to rapidly get up to speed in new domains
  • Demonstrated year on year ability to grow business sectors and reference impactful wins of > £50m TCV
  • Experience of team leadership and management oversight for multi-disciplinary teams
  • Commercial and financial understanding to enable optimum balance of risk / reward / price to be embedded within qualified opportunities
  • Customer focused, with prior experience within government outsourcing and bidding in key markets such as employability, health and justice as examples.
  • Prior experience working within outsourced environments
  • Proven ability working with key stakeholders, building relationships across all levels including board and C-Suite level
  • Proven experience managing large teams across multiple projects
  • Strong track record of delivering change in complex and demanding environments
  • Systems thinking - ability to connect disparate services into cohesive client solutions
