Community Partnership Producers (2x FTC, full time & part time)
Do you love building meaningful relationships with communities and bringing people together to spark curiosity in science? Can you co-produce inclusive sessions and workshops with young people, families and partners that directly shape what our new galleries become?
About us
The Science Museum Group is here to Inspire Futures by connecting people with the impact of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) on our lives today and in the future. At the Science and Industry Museum (SIM) in Manchester, our Public Programme creates world-class experiences that build science capital across our diverse audiences. Drawing on our unique collection and internationally significant heritage site, we collaborate with communities to create innovative, interactive content that reflects our ambition to be an internationally significant museum with a distinctly Manchester personality.
About the roles
We are recruiting for two Community Partnerships Producers, each working on a once-in-a-generation gallery project at the Science and Industry Museum. The two roles share the same purpose: to develop and nurture community partnerships, to plan and deliver a range of audience-focused participatory activities as part of each gallery's activity plan in order to shape interpretation and content. In both roles you will be a visible advocate for the project and our partners, helping to build relationships and ways of working that sustain the gallery and its live programmes long into the future.
Both are about coordinating and collaborating, working closely with the project team and, with support from your manager, linking our collaborators to our wider schools, skills and public programmes. While the heart of each role is the same, they focus on different audiences and different projects.
The detail
Both roles are based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, sit within the Public Programme department, and report to the Senior Learning & Partnerships Manager. The key differences are hours and contract length:
- Technicians Gallery: Full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE), on a fixed-term contract to March 2029 (approximately 30 months) - £29,417 per annum
- Wonderlab Gallery: Part time, 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE), on a fixed-term contract to June 2028 (approximately 21 months) - £29,417 per annum pro rata (£17,650 equivalent for 21 hours per week)
Hybrid working is available in line with our hybrid working policy, with a minimum of 40% of working hours on-site and the specific arrangement agreed with your line manager. You will also be required to work flexibly to support the location preferences of communities and partners, and at times to work outside normal hours to support delivery of public programme activities.
Please indicate in your application which role you are interested in - you are welcome to apply for either or both.
Community Partnerships Producer - Technicians Gallery
The Technicians Gallery is a free, interactive space for young people aged 11-16 that celebrates and demystifies the work of diverse technicians across the North West. Building on the success of the Technicians Gallery at the Science Museum in London, it will offer a locally rooted, nationally significant learning experience designed to grow interest in technical career pathways - a gallery that is both inspiring and genuinely useful in shaping life choices and opportunities.
In this role you will work closely with the project team to develop and nurture partnerships with young people, educators and industry, and your insights will help shape interpretation and content across the new gallery and its live programme. It is a youth-focused role, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable working with people across industry, teachers and young people alike - a really good facilitator of discussion, events and workshops. You might come from a research or youth work background, and above all you will be a confident communicator who is organised, flexible and genuinely at ease with people.
Community Partnerships Producer - Wonderlab Gallery
Wonderlab is a once-in-a-generation project with the potential to shape core childhood memories and aspirations for generations to come. It will be a dynamic, hands-on gallery designed to ignite curiosity in children aged 4-11, along with the grown-ups who raise and educate them. Through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations and opportunities for open-ended exploration, Wonderlab will invite audiences to experiment, ask questions and develop confidence in STEM.
In this role you will work closely with the Wonderlab project team to develop and nurture partnerships with children, schools and emerging educators. This is focused on broadening and deepening our work with a well-established audience - primary school children and their families - and our approach, relationships and ways of working with these audiences are largely ready to go. The role is therefore about adding capacity to support and build on work that is already underway, with room to tinker and refine. We would love to hear from someone who might bring a more arts-based practice and a strong focus on sensory access.
About you
We're keen to hear from candidates who bring experience of planning, researching and delivering high-quality, engaging and accessible content for a range of audiences - particularly those traditionally underserved by museums. You'll have an excellent understanding of audiences, their diversity and their access requirements, and strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience of translating complex information into simple, compelling content.
You'll bring confident facilitation skills and a warm delivery style, experience of developing, supervising and supporting communities, participants and volunteers, and a track record of delivering safe and effective workshops and events. You're organised, with good problem-solving abilities and a creative, collaborative and flexible approach. Financial awareness to take ownership of budgets, good negotiation skills with experience of influencing varied stakeholders, experience of using audience research and evaluation to inform your work, and strong ICT skills all matter too. Above all, you'll share our values-driven approach and a passion for contributing to an open and inclusive organisation.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
