Consultant Psychiatrist in South West Short Term Support Team

London, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 hour ago
South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist for the South West Short Term Support Team (SWSTS) on a 12-month fixed term contract. SWSTS

SWSTS is part of the South West Living Well Centre (SWLWC), which is one of the three locality LWCs in Lambeth (North, South East and SW). Each LWC has one STS and one Focussed Support Team; the former provides assessments and brief interventions and the latter offers medium to longer term care and support for those with mental health problems and associated psycho-societal difficulties. The three LWCs mirror the developing Primary Care Networks (PCN) across the borough.

SWFS is based at the SWLWC, alongside SWFS and South West Social Care Team, covering three PCNs (Streatham PCN, AT Medics PCN and Clapham PCN).

The team normally has 80-85 new referrals per month, among which approximately 75% them are eventually accepted for assessment following screening. The team discharge about 60 patients per month on average to the primary care or another team within or out of the borough. The overall caseload for the team is around 200 patients, for which the post holder will share responsibilities for oversight of care by the co-consultant.

The post holder will carry out 15 scheduled reviews per week, which are a combination of joint reviews with care coordinators and diagnostic clarification assessments.

The main clinical duties are to provide senior medical input as consultant psychiatrist / Approved Clinician for the patients treated under the South West Short Term Support Team, and to be part of the joint senior leadership for the team and South West Living Well Centre. There is reciprocal Approved Clinician cover including under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act for the leave, study leave and sickness of senior medical staff in Lambeth during working hours.

The post holder will provide out-of-hour senior medical input as per the Lambeth consultant on-call rota (1:20) with a category ‘B’ 1% banding supplement.

As for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, one full-time GPVT is placed in the team and the post holder is their Clinical Supervisor. There are year 3 medical students of King's College London allocated to the team for their longitudinal placements.

The successful candidate will work in Lambeth SLaM, which is part of the Living Well Network Alliance (LWNA), a collaboration with the local place-base of the South East Integrated Care Board (SEL ICB), local authorities and two voluntary sector partners (Certitude and Thames Reach). The LWNA is the first Alliance in the country to provide whole system mental health care for working age adults with innovation, co-production and populations needs at the centre of service development and delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role for ongoing community care restructuring and developing integrated neighbourhood models as per the 10-Year Health Plan.

The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust. There are ample opportunities for educational and academic roles and collaborations as SLaM is part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre and also the only mental health trust in the UK to have our own biomedical research centre, hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London.
