Credit Manager - Asset Finance
About the role
The Credit Manager - Asset Finance is responsible for the assessment and approval of asset finance proposals within delegated lending authority, including affordability analysis, credit profiling, and security evaluation.
You will ensure lending decisions align with Oxbury Bank's risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and commercial objectives, whilst maintaining a strong customer focus and operating within an effective framework of risk management and internal controls.
Role Responsibilities:
- Implement the Bank's lending strategy in line with Board-approved risk appetite, credit policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements, while promoting a strong risk culture, ethical conduct, and professional integrity.
- Assess and approve asset finance proposals within delegated lending authority, applying sound commercial judgement and ensuring risks are appropriately identified, evaluated, mitigated, and documented.
- Maintain robust credit underwriting standards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and legal requirements, including customer affordability, Consumer Duty, anti-money laundering (AML), financial crime prevention, and data protection obligations.
- Prepare clear, concise, and well-reasoned credit submissions and recommendations, including the escalation of proposals requiring higher levels of authority and the preparation of papers for Credit Committee consideration.
- Conduct periodic portfolio reviews to assess customer performance, repayment behaviour, credit quality, security values, industry trends, and external intelligence, recommending amendments to credit ratings, limits, or facilities where appropriate.
- Ensure all transactions presented for pay-out comply with approved credit sanctions and facility terms, with all conditions precedent satisfied, documentation completed, and security interests correctly perfected and recorded.
- Collaborate effectively with Relationship Managers, Sales, Operations, distributors, brokers, and other stakeholders to deliver efficient lending outcomes and a positive customer experience while maintaining appropriate risk controls.
- Contribute to the implementation of Board and Committee decisions and support wider business initiatives through active participation and constructive challenge.
- Maintain a high level of technical, regulatory, and market knowledge, undertaking continuous professional development to support individual performance and business objectives.
- Acts as a role model for Oxbury's values of Customer Focus, Integrity, Competitive Excellence, Risk Awareness, Partnership, and Sustainability, embedding these principles in decision-making, stakeholder interactions, and the exercise of delegated lending authority.
Required skills/experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Credit Risk or Lending, including the analysis and interpretation of financial statements, management information, cash flow forecasts, and other relevant credit data.
- Experience operating within a delegated lending authority framework, including holding and exercising a personal lending mandate.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume workflows and competing priorities while consistently delivering against demanding SLA targets.
- Strong understanding of credit risk principles, risk appetite, credit underwriting, portfolio management, and risk management frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of banking regulation, compliance requirements, Conduct Risk, Consumer Duty (where applicable), and the delivery of fair customer outcomes.
- Knowledge of banking, asset finance, or agricultural lending products, security structures, and collateral management procedures.
- Strong analytical and commercial judgement with the ability to identify, assess, and articulate key credit risks and mitigants.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations clearly and effectively to senior stakeholders and committees.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Proficient in the use of lending systems, credit reference agency tools, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and reporting tools.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively under pressure.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently while maintaining high professional standards.
Desirable skills/experience:
- Experience within the agricultural, rural, or agribusiness sectors.
- Previous team leadership, supervisory, coaching, or mentoring experience within a Credit Risk or Lending environment.
- Experience preparing and presenting credit submissions to senior credit committees or executive-level stakeholders.
- Professional banking, credit, risk, or finance qualifications (e.g. LIBF, ICA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA or equivalent).
- Experience contributing to credit policy development, credit process improvement, or wider risk management initiatives.
- Demonstrable experience leading change, improving operational efficiency, or enhancing credit risk controls.
