Data Engineer

Leicester, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 3 weeks ago
Job Description

As a Retail Data Engineer at NEXT, you will be at the heart of our digital evolution, bridging the gap between raw operational data and the actionable commercial insights that drive our business forward.

Based at our Head Office, you will make a tangible difference by designing and building scalable solutions that transform how we view performance, automating legacy processes, and ensuring total data integrity across our retail operations. Working closely with our core Retail team, you will empower colleagues to make data-driven decisions every day. At NEXT, we are committed to your professional development; you will be fully supported from day one with targeted training and opportunities to stay ahead of technical advancements, including machine learning and generative AI tools.

What You’ll Take On

Collaborate closely with retail colleagues to translate commercial needs into practical, high-impact analytical solutions.

Build and maintain robust, scalable data models and processing pipelines using SQL and Python within our Databricks environment.

Design and deliver inspiring, clear Power BI dashboards that highlight key commercial trends and performance indicators.

Act as a subject matter expert for the wider retail team, providing hands-on training to enable high-quality self-service data analysis.

Continuously evolve your skills by exploring and implementing emerging technologies, from advanced machine learning to generative AI.

Partner proactively with internal technology domains to secure and maintain a single version of truth across all NEXT operations.

What You’ll Bring

A quiet confidence in your technical abilities, with a natural drive to take ownership and deliver accurate, reliable results.

A talent for communication, with the ability to explain complex data concepts clearly to non-technical teams and focus on the findings that truly matter.

Proven technical proficiency in building interactive, user-focused reports, particularly using Power BI.

Strong data manipulation skills using SQL or Python, supported by a solid understanding of data warehousing and modern modelling techniques.

A collaborative, team-oriented mindset alongside the adaptability to work at pace and manage multiple tasks within a dynamic, fast-moving retail environment.
