RED is currently seeking an experienced Senior Database Engineer to support a major banking client on a long-term contract based in Sheffield. This role is suited to a highly experienced DBA / Database Engineer with strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise-scale database environments, ideally within banking, payments, liquidity, or core financial systems.

Key Skills & Experience Essential
- 10+ years of hands-on DBA experience in enterprise environments ideally
- Strong expertise in at least one major RDBMS (Oracle / SQL Server / PostgreSQL)
- Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems, ideally in payments, banking, or financial services • Knowledge of HA/DR technologies (e.g., RAC, AlwaysOn, replication, clustering)
- Strong SQL and performance tuning skills
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., OEM, Dynatrace, Splunk, Prometheus)
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments
- Understanding of backup/recovery strategies and tools Preferred
- Experience in Payments, Liquidity, or Core Banking systems
- Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and cloud-native databases
- Scripting/automation skills (Python, Shell, Ansible, Terraform)
- Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of data security & regulatory requirements in banking (e.g., FCA, PRA)
