Job Title

Principal and Senior EC&I Design Engineers


Summary

We’re seeking experienced Principal and Senior EC&I Engineers to work on a major defence infrastructure programme. These are contract positions for 12 months, based in our client’s Glasgow city centre office with hybrid flexibility and excellent rates for professionals with electrical, control and instrumentation design expertise.


Salary

  • Principal Engineer: £60 – £75 per hour
  • Senior Engineer: £50 – £65 per hour

Rates are on an Umbrella basis, inside IR35


Location and Working Pattern

Glasgow city centre office – hybrid working, ideally at least two office days per week

Responsibilities

  • Deliver EC&I design for new infrastructure
  • Design HV and LV electrical systems and integrate communications systems such as SCADA, networks, and telecoms
  • Prepare building services designs including lighting, small power, earthing, and lightning protection
  • Lead and mentor junior team members, ensuring high-quality project outputs
  • Produce technical scopes and resource estimates for design changes
  • Develop system specifications aligned with client requirements
  • Manage design risks, assumptions, and design change control processes
  • Ensure the team delivers activities aligned with programme priorities


Must-have Requirements

  • Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (British-born UK citizen, with no overseas work in the last 5 years)
  • Significant EC&I design experience on complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of HV and LV systems and associated communications systems
  • Building services design experience
  • Competency in Trimble/Amtech and Dialux; ETAP experience desirable
  • Ability to lead and guide junior engineering staff


Nice-to-have Skills

  • Previous experience in defence or nuclear sectors
  • Familiarity with design assurance and governance processes
