Electronics / Software Engineer

Cambridge, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 hour ago

Ever wondered what it's like to work on the hardest engineering problems around?

At Cambridge Consultants, no two days look the same. One week you could be developing robotics for a global client; the next, collaborating with LEGO® on the next generation of LEGO® SMART Play™; the next, pioneering AI cyberattack response for the UK military. If you're an experienced Electronics or Software Engineer who thrives on variety and loves solving genuinely hard problems, we want to hear from you.

The role

We run over 300 technology, design and consulting projects every year, spanning Consumer Devices, Industrial Systems, and Defence and National Security. Our Electronics and Software group brings together experts in embedded systems, electronics, embedded software, physics, control, communications, security and algorithm design — and we're looking for experienced engineers to widen our skillset and support our junior team members.

You'll work directly with clients across the full project lifecycle, from requirements capture to final handover, and get hands-on with:

  • Embedded software in C for real-world targets
  • SystemVerilog for FPGAs
  • PCB design and hardware testing
  • Analogue and digital hardware design, information engineering, control and communications

What we're looking for

  • An excellent degree or PhD in electrical, electronic or information engineering, computer science, physics, or a related field
  • Prior industrial experience in at least one of the following, with enthusiasm to learn the rest:
  • Software implementation in C, C++, Rust or similar
  • PCB design
  • Digital electronics (processors, memory, DSP, Verilog, VHDL)
  • Analogue electronics (general, interfaces, RF, power)
  • Genuine curiosity, a rigorous approach to problem-solving, and a willingness to turn your hand to new challenges

Security clearance: Some of our projects are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to obtain Security Check (SC) level clearance, and you must be able to work in the UK without restrictions and be willing to undertake the appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting.
