Job title: English Language Teacher(Full Time or Part Time positions available)

Reports to: Programme Leader andDirector of Studies

Location: Nottingham (with hybrid working as required)


Purpose: 


English Language Teachers are responsible for teaching English skilfully and creatively to our motivated international EFL and local ESOL students at our Nottingham Centre. You will be expected to plan, prepare and deliver highly engaging student-centred English language lessons that are specifically designed to meet the needs of local and international students, helping them to achieve their goals in an inclusive, challenging and enjoyable learning environment. The post requires TEFLI status as defined by the British Council Accreditation Scheme. Please see the Person Specification below for the required qualifications.


Key Responsibilities


Teaching Quality


  • Delivering high-quality English language lessons to ESOL/EFL adults.
  • Maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. 
  • Applying the Trent Education Centre holistic approach to teaching English language (this will be explained to you during Induction should your application be accepted).
  • Creating engaging lesson plans and differentiated learning resources to ensure students meet clear individual and group learning objectives.
  • Use appropriate methodologies for adult ESOL, EFL and Functional Skills English students.
  • Conduct personal tutorials with students as and when required.


Assessments/Exams and Compliance


  • Support students to prepare for exams and assessments, so that they can attain qualifications if they wish.
  • Complete student documentation, assessments and progress tracking.
  • Monitoring attendance, student engagement, conduct and performance. 
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date academic records in line with British Council Accreditation Scheme requirements.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic reports on students.
  • Participate in student placement testing and marking and invigilating for exams as required.
  • Complete all mandatory training and read all required TEC policies in compliance with Safeguarding, Prevent, Anti-Bullying, Anti-Harassment and Sexual Misconduct and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Uphold the principles of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom.


Teamwork and Quality Performance


  • Working closely with colleagues as part of a supportive team. 
  • Supporting admissions staff with student academic interviews and assessments to ensure they meet course entry requirements.
  • Contributing positively to curriculum development and quality improvement and enhancement.
  • Attending meetings as and when required.
  • Attending CPD training and workshops as and when required.
  • Actively engage in ongoing professional development in line with British Council Accreditation Scheme expectations.
  • Promote student welfare and follow TEC’s relevant procedures, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain high professional standards in line with TEC policies and British Council Accreditation Scheme expectations.
  • Participate in lesson observations as part of TEC’s quality assurance cycle.
  • Support the Programme Leader and Director of Studies with planning and preparation for internal and external quality assurance checks.
  • Support the Programme Leader and Director of Studies in meeting all British Council Accreditation Scheme requirements and expectations of quality and standards.

Person Specification


Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills


  • Degree‑level qualification
  • CELTA/CertTESOL or equivalent (minimum)
  • Experience with ESOL Skills for Life and Functional Skills English
  • GCSE or equivalent Level 2 English and Maths (minimum)
  • Excellent English language speaking and writing skills


Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills


  • DELTA/DipTESOL or equivalent at Level 7
  • Three years’ experience or more teaching ESOL/EFL to adults at all levels
  • Experience designing schemes of work, assessments and curriculum
  • Understanding of British Council Accreditation Scheme requirements
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with awarding‑body requirements (e.g., Ascentis, NCFE)
  • Experience working in a British Council‑accredited centre
  • Experience preparing for British Council inspections
