Field Technician - OLA (Permanent, Full Time)
We’re looking for a proactive and customer-focused Field Technician to join our OLA Installations team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality fibre installation and maintenance services to end‑users across KCOM’s fibre network area. With a strong “right first time” mindset, you’ll help us meet productivity targets while providing an excellent customer experience.
You’ll work across our copper and fibre estate, including poles and street furniture, and contribute to continuous improvement by feeding in ideas for better ways of working. Collaboration across Field Operations and with the wider business is essential, along with a commitment to safety, quality, and ongoing learning.
Salary – Up to £29,000 per annum dependant on experience plus Overtime, On-Call and Fuel Card
Location – Field Based, Hull and East Yorkshire

What You’ll Be Doing
- Install FTTH and VoIP solutions to high standards of customer satisfaction.
- Respond to customer faults and service issues as directed by the Resource Control Team, resolving problems or providing effective workarounds within contracted timeframes.
- Maintain quality across the KCOM estate, including overhead and underground network assets.
- Use expertise to suggest improvements that support productivity targets and reduce fault volumes year on year.
- Meet agreed productivity levels to help deliver on customer promises.
- Adhere to Health and Safety standards, ISO certifications, regulatory obligations, and all IBMS requirements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships within Field Operations, supporting colleagues and sharing knowledge.
- Successfully undertake both overhead and underground working as part of day-to-day duties.
Candidate Requirements
- Hands‑on experience with copper and fibre technologies, including installation, testing, and maintenance.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, copper and fibre testing equipment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with customers, stakeholders, and team members.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose efficiently and work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience with process creation, continuous improvement, or lean initiatives is highly desirable.
Qualifications and Other Requirements
- EUSR certification
- NRSWA 01 and LA (Signs, Lighting and Guarding)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Full DBS check
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Telecoms industry experience across copper and fibre networks (Installation, Faulting, Jointing, Cabinet work).
- Ability to interpret service prints and network schematics.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow FSM.
- Experience with overhead delivery (IPAF preferred).
