Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious finance professional looking to progress their experience within a FTSE listed construction business with a track record of delivering high profile infrastructure projects.
This is a critical role within the R2R function that involves collecting, processing, validating and presenting accurate financial data. Whilst also providing strategic, financial and operational feedback on the performance of the company to senior management.
The role will be involved in assisting in the set up and development of the R2R processes, supporting the Senior Finance Manager & providing delivery of day-to-day finance activities.
The role includes exposure to senior management of the group and other central finance functions, providing an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your ability for further advancement.
Responsibilities
You will provide financial information to a broad range of business unit owners & functional areas supporting them to understand their reported financial actuals, identifying balance sheet risks and opportunities.
It is essential that you can convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders at a senior level.
The Primary Responsibilities Of This Role Are
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with +5 years’ experience

The Primary Responsibilities Of This Role Are
- Management & development of the Assistant Finance Manager & 2 graduates.
- Managing the Balance Sheet Reconciliation & Control processes for all entities, to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the general ledger to support management and statutory reporting.
- Review reconciliations to highlight high risk areas and work with the wider finance functions to ensure an acceptable outcome. Communicate to Senior management & the wider finance areas a monthly progress report
- Production of robust and timely financial results and support the business partners with their reported numbers for the main Costain Limited company.
- Manage & review the month end accounting close incorporating accruals, prepayments, fixed Asset accounting and reporting flash numbers for the main Costain Limited company.
- Reconciliation of the E1 numbers to the Management Accounts
- Manage the AGV process for CLRs
- Manage the Joint Arrangement numbers, understanding how the contracts work and building relationships with the wider business
- Manage the extended trial balance adjustments schedule
- Understanding of the profit reconciliation & support
- Manage the quarterly reporting on balance sheet numbers in Mercur
- Build relationships with both the FP&A team and Consolidation team
- Management and review of the Statutory ONS Returns.
- Management and review of the CIS Returns and statements.
- Management and development of the Graduate scheme within the team, ensuring smooth task transfers through placement handovers and mid-placement handovers for graduates.
- Drive standard processes through principles of simplification, standardisation, and, working with the wider teams, automation where appropriate.
- Monitoring efficiency, reporting targets and KPI’s to drive continuous improvement.
- Support Senior Finance Manager with risk areas both in the team &/or process control.
- Support Ad-hoc projects including system developments where necessary.
- Can remain calm and focused under pressure, handling challenging situations with composure. Adapts quickly to change in project plans or unexpected issues. Reflects on setbacks to identify lessons learned and applies these insights to future tasks. Encourages resilience in others, providing support and fostering a positive work environment.
- Can prepare, present and explain complex management reporting/financial performance and explain complex financial themes with relevant insights to improve business performance independent of support
- Ability to review and identify risk within the balance sheet. Ability to explain double entry and reconciliations to others.
- Can prepare and present management reporting and explain financial themes and relevant insights under supervision/guidance, can communicate financial results to non-finance communities and articulate results, challenges and risks, can identify trends within the numbers and takes appropriate action or communicates to management.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of accounting records and systems including nominal ledger coding structures. Can review ledgers to ensure accuracy. Understands requirement for separation of duties and able to identify potential areas of risk. Understands the purpose of internal controls and ensures they are followed.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence to present to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically, challenge current processes and introduce improvements.
- Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to build positive and effective relationships at all levels. Gravitas to influence, challenge, and support in a matrix environment.

- Proven experience in a similar finance systems role.
- Management, development and co-ordination of small teams essential.
- Proven experience of process and systems optimisation.
- Collaboration with stakeholders and identifying financial anomalies
- Working with Oracle Enterprise One, or similar ERP system desirable.
