About the Role
Atrium is seeking to recruiting for a Formulation Scientist to join a leading global pharmaceutical organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly innovative Materials Characterisation team, supporting the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products through advanced formulation science, process understanding, and predictive modelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute laboratory studies evaluating material variability and supplier changes.
- Apply formulation science and process understanding to predict product and manufacturing performance.
- Develop small-scale models representing pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
- Investigate relationships between material attributes, process parameters, and critical quality attributes.
- Conduct studies involving:
- Powder blending and content uniformity
- Wet and dry granulation
- Powder flow and feeding behaviour
- Tablet compression and compaction
- Film coating performance
- Stability and robustness assessments
- Interpret experimental and modelling data to support risk-based decision making.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and scientific recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with formulation, analytical, manufacturing, and engineering teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and laboratory excellence programmes.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 3-5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Strong background in formulation development, process development, manufacturing sciences, or drug product development.
- Experience with oral solid dosage forms (OSD).
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical unit operations including blending, granulation, compression, and coating.
- Experience designing experiments and interpreting scientific data.
- Strong understanding of material attributes and their impact on product quality and manufacturability.
- Excellent technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Desirable
- Experience with predictive modelling, data analysis, simulation tools, or process modelling approaches.
- Knowledge of Science of Scale principles and pharmaceutical manufacturing scale-up activities.
