How You'll Make a Difference

As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will help to create and care for the parks, green spaces, highways, cemeteries and conservations areas that our communities rely on and enjoy every day.

What You Will Be Doing

  • You will carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance activates across South Gloucestershire, including grass cutting, hedge trimming and reduction, shrub maintenance, litter picking and the upkeep of planting beds.
  • It will be your responsibility to carry out routine maintenance activates, including heavy cutbacks in public parks, open spaces, roadside verges and woodland areas.
  • Using a range of commercial powered tools such as brush cutters, powered pruners, long-reach pruners and pedestrian mowers, you will work safely and in line with all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Supporting horticultural and landscaping tasks, you will help maintain the council's cycle route network using appropriate equipment, and assist with the safe removal of fly-tipped waste, contributing to a clean, safe and well-maintained environment for local communities.

What We Need From You

  • We are looking for someone who has experience of working in a gardening or grounds maintenance role, with the ability to operate professional equipment such as strimmers, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers.
  • As you will be travelling throughout the authority and surrounding area, it is essential that you have a full, valid UK driving licence, preferably with experience of driving a long wheelbase transit style tipper.
  • You must be able to follow instructions, read maps and complete records accurately.
  • It is essential that you have a strong understanding of health and safety, along with an awareness of the risks and hazards associated with working in this environment.

What You Need To Know

  • Your uniform and equipment will be provided.
  • Depending on your duties, weekend work may be involved for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid.
