From our Wakefield office, we deliver vacuum excavation (vac-ex) services across the UK, safely exposing underground utilities to support trial holes, verification works, and enabling activities.
The Role
We are seeking a Groundworker to join our Wakefield-based vacuum excavation team. This is a hands-on, site-based role supporting vacuum excavation works on live construction and infrastructure projects nationwide.
You will work as part of a crew, regularly travel and work away, and be trained in specialist techniques that prioritise safety around live utilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with vacuum excavation trial holes and the safe exposure of underground services
- Support the Vac Ex Operator with hoses, lances, tooling, and spoil management
- Set up and maintain safe working areas, including barriers, signage, and housekeeping
- Work in accordance with RAMS, permits, and site-specific safety requirements
- Carry out basic daily checks, cleaning, and upkeep of plant and equipment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and site teams
- Travel nationwide and work away as required
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Groundworks / civils experience or similar practical, site-based work
- A strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn a specialist trade
- A safety-first mindset and ability to follow procedures
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable (but not essential):
- Class 2 (HGV Cat C) licence
- Experience with vacuum excavation, trial holes, or live utilities
- CSCS, NRSWA, EUSR, confined space, or relevant plant tickets
Salary, Training & Progression
- £27,897 – £34,160 per annum, subject to holding a Class 2 (HGV Cat C) licence and relevant experience
- Candidates without a Class 2 licence will be appointed at the lower end of the range, with scope for progression as experience and qualifications develop
- Overtime and working-away arrangements where applicable
- Training and development support, including progression to Vacuum Excavation Operator and potential HGV route
