Head of Technology, full time onsite

RSHP is an international architectural practice who has designed some of world’s most iconic buildings. Our portfolio of projects ranges from the renowned Lloyd’s of London building, a new distillery and visitor centre for The Macallan in Speyside, to The Leadenhall Building, an office tower which is home to the practice’s studio. Currently, we are working on a range of high-profile projects, including 99 Bishopsgate, a new commercial tower in the City of London; the Four Seasons Hotel in Taipei; the British Library Extension in London; and Bayeux Tapestry Museum in Normandy.

The culture in the practice is one of sharing knowledge and coming together for discussion and teamwork. We have over 185 exceptional people from all over the world in our offices in London, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Australia and Paris who are working on projects in over 15 countries. 

The successful candidate will have a key role as a member of the leadership team being responsible for ensuring that all technology across RSHP operates as a cohesive, secure and efficient environment, rather than as a collection of disconnected systems.

This role provides strategic and operational leadership across IT Operations, digital design platforms, information and knowledge management, business systems, and emerging AI initiatives. It ensures that technology is stable, well-governed and aligned with the long-term direction of the practice to support a developing digital transformation culture within the office.

We are looking for a candidate who can successfully lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s technology strategy, ensuring technology investments, platforms and services support business operational excellence and future growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide practice-wide oversight of technology across IT Operations, Project Technology, Visualisation, Information Management, Knowledge Management, Business Systems, Archives and AI-related initiatives.
• Lead the development and delivery of RSHP’s technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and future growth.
• Develop and manage RSHP software programs to find ways to deliver our core design services more cost effectively.
• Oversee the central technology budget, including forecasting, investment planning and vendor management.
• Ensure all major technology investment, procurement and platform changes are reviewed, costed and aligned before commitment.
• Lead IT Operations, ensuring infrastructure, cybersecurity controls and core systems are stable, secure and appropriately maintained.
• Maintain governance oversight of digital design platforms and workflows, working closely with the Project Technology Lead and Computational Design Lead.
• Ensure effective integration between systems (e.g. Deltek, Newforma, Axiell and other core platforms) to improve data flow and usability.
• Support and guide AI and data initiatives, ensuring they are practical, secure and aligned with business needs.
• Identify, manage and escalate material technology risks to the Technology Strategy Board where enterprise impact exists.
• Chair the Technology Strategy Board, enabling structured decision-making on priorities, investment and risk.
• Support organisational compliance with GDPR, ensuring systems, data handling and vendors meet data protection requirements and standards.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 27001 and promote best practice in security and governance.

Scope of Authority

• Direct leadership of IT Operations.
• Propose the technology budget for Board approval.
• Oversight of investment across all technology-related functions.
• Governance oversight of major platform changes and adoption of new tools.
• Escalation of significant risks, compliance concerns and capital commitments to the Technology Strategy Board.

Qualities and Skills required

• Senior technology leader with experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary environments.
• Strong background in IT operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity and enterprise systems.
• Experience working across both operational IT and digital/project technology environments.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, vendors and long-term technology planning.
• Good understanding of data governance and data protection principles (including GDPR).
• Strong communicator, able to translate technical concepts and risk into clear business language.
• Collaborative, pragmatic and structured, with a focus on delivering practical outcomes.
