Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: Remote (UK) with ad hoc travel to sites, lenders, investors and board meetings as required

Contract: Interim (12 months minimum, with potential to transition into a permanent role)

Commitment: Full-time (5 days per week)


The Opportunity

Our client is a private equity-backed healthcare business seeking an experienced and hands-on Interim CFO to support the next phase of growth, operational improvement and value creation. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board and investors, the successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership whilst remaining actively involved in day-to-day finance operations.


This is a highly visible role requiring a commercially minded finance leader who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced PE environment, driving performance, improving financial controls, enhancing reporting capability and delivering critical finance and systems transformation initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Business Performance

  • Provide strategic financial leadership to the CEO, Board and investors.
  • Drive financial performance, cash flow management and profitability improvement initiatives.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning processes.
  • Deliver timely, accurate and insightful management information to support decision-making.
  • Support the execution of the business plan and value creation agenda.

Private Equity & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary finance contact for investors, lenders and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present board packs, monthly performance reports and investor updates.
  • Manage banking relationships and oversee debt facilities.
  • Lead covenant reporting and ensure compliance with lending requirements.
  • Support refinancing, funding and strategic finance activities as required.

Finance Function Leadership

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring high standards of financial control and governance.
  • Enhance financial reporting, processes and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, compliance and risk management frameworks are maintained.
  • Drive accountability and performance across the finance function.

Systems, Data & Reporting Transformation

  • Lead the integration and optimisation of ERP, CRM and associated business systems.
  • Develop automated reporting, KPI dashboards and forecasting capabilities.
  • Improve data quality, accessibility and business intelligence across the organisation.
  • Establish scalable financial processes and reporting infrastructure to support future growth.

Commercial & Operational Support

  • Partner with operational leaders to improve performance and drive informed decision-making.
  • Support business transformation and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to support strategic projects and investment decisions.


Candidate Profile

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record as a CFO or Finance Director within a private equity-backed lower-mid-market business.
  • Strong experience operating in highly leveraged environments with responsibility for bank relationships, debt management and covenant reporting.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic leadership and operational execution.
  • Demonstrable success improving financial reporting, forecasting and business performance.
  • Experience leading finance, systems or data transformation programmes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting to Boards, investors and lenders.


Desirable Experience

  • Background within healthcare, healthcare services or regulated services environments.
  • Experience working with NHS customers and understanding public sector procurement and funding mechanisms.
  • Experience implementing or integrating ERP and CRM platforms.
  • Previous interim leadership assignments within growth-oriented PE-backed businesses.
