IT Infrastructure Engineer
Role Purpose
An organisation undergoing acquisition or consolidation is entering a critical infrastructure integration phase. The IT Infrastructure Engineer will support the programme by delivering hands-on engineering across servers, networking, storage, backup, and data transfer activities.
The role focuses on stabilising and migrating legacy infrastructure into the organisation’s target-state environment, ensuring secure, controlled, and well documented change throughout the transition.
This is a delivery focused contract role requiring strong technical capability, structured execution, and the ability to work effectively within a transitioning IT landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Engineering & Architecture.
· Design and implement infrastructure solutions required for the integration of legacy
systems.
Produce clear technical documentation, diagrams, and migration plans.
· Assess legacy environments and define short-term remediation or migration
approaches.
· Integrate legacy IT infrastructure into the target enterprise landscape.
Relocate legacy IT infrastructure.
Server & Storage Management
Support and maintain Dell server hardware, Windows Server, and virtualisation platforms within both source and target environments.
Manage and optimise QNAP NAS storage, including configuration, expansion, and data
protection.
· Execute server migrations, consolidation, and decommissioning tasks as legacy systems
transition into the target infrastructure.
Networking & Security
· Configure and troubleshoot Cisco Meraki networking (MX, MS, MR) across source and target
sites.
Implement secure network designs including VLANs, ACLs, firewall rules, and segmentation.
Support network changes required for tenant alignment, domain migrations, and SaaS repointing as services move into the target organisation.
Deliver a structured cabling to racks through good labelling and cable management.

Backup & Recovery
Maintain and optimise Veeam Backup & Replication for servers, VMs, and NAS workloads.
Ensure backup integrity and successful restore testing during migration phases.
· Adjust backup strategies to support data movement from legacy systems into the target
environment.
Data Transfer & Migration
Infrastructure Integration Programme
Plan and execute structured data transfer activities across servers, NAS devices, and cloud
platforms.
· Validate data integrity, security, and completeness during migrations between source and target environments.
Work with project teams to ensure controlled, lowrisk change.
Mentoring & Knowledge Transfer
Provide practical guidance and hands-on support to junior IT staff during the contract period.
Share best practices, structured troubleshooting approaches, and operational knowhow.
Ensure knowledge transfer for any systems or changes implemented during the engagement.
Operational Support
Act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure issues across both environments.
Work closely with project managers, security teams, and vendors.
Ensure stable operations throughout the integration period.
