Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role for a Subject Matter Expert – Electrical, based in London.
The role involves providing expert electrical engineering input for data centre and other mission-critical projects, from early-stage concept and feasibility studies through detailed design and construction support. The Subject Matter Expert will develop and review electrical designs, specifications, and calculations, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes, and client requirements. They will collaborate closely with mechanical, ICT, security, and project management teams to deliver integrated design solutions. Day-to-day activities include supporting design reviews, mentoring junior engineers, engaging with clients and stakeholders, and assisting with technical problem-solving and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in electrical engineering for mission-critical environments (preferably data centres), including power distribution, standby and emergency power systems, UPS, and earthing/grounding.
- Proficiency in electrical design tools, calculations, and documentation, with the ability to produce and review drawings, specifications, and technical reports to a high standard.
- Solid understanding of relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., BS, IEC, local building regulations) and experience applying them in practical project settings.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary design environment, collaborating with mechanical, ICT, security, and project management teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
- Proven ability to act as a technical advisor or subject matter expert, including supporting client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Relevant degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline; professional registration (e.g., Chartered Engineer or working towards it) is highly advantageous.
- Previous experience in data centre, critical infrastructure, or high-reliability electrical systems is strongly preferred.
