Junior Photogrammetry Capture Artist

Greater London, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 3 weeks ago

We are hiring a Junior Photogrammetry Capture Artist to join our scanning team at our Cricklewood studio for the summer. You'll photograph real-world objects using a DSLR and ring flash, to help build one of the largest and highest-quality photogrammetry datasets in the industry - data that directly trains our I2M machine learning model. This is a day-rate summer role, ideal for students or early-career creatives in film, VFX, game art, or photography.

M-XR · Cricklewood, North London · On-site, 5 days/week · Day rate · ~3–4 months (flexible)

About M-XR

M-XR builds AI-powered tools for game developers and visual effects studios. Our flagship product, Marso Studio, turns any 3D asset into production-ready PBR materials - and to do that well, we need the best 3D capture data on the planet which is why we've build Marso Measure. We're building one of the largest and highest-quality photogrammetry datasets in the industry, and every scan our team captures feeds directly into training a state-of-the-art machine learning model that turns a single image into a full set of physically-based textures.

This isn't capture for the sake of capture. You'll be helping build the foundation of something genuinely new.

The Role

We're looking for a junior capture artist to join our scanning team at our Cricklewood studio for the summer. You'll be working hands-on, five days a week, photographing real-world objects, from small household items to full-size furniture using a DSLR and ring flash setup. Your photos become the raw material for our photogrammetry pipeline, and ultimately, training data for our Image-to-Material (I2M) AI model.

You'll report to Joe, who leads scanning operations at this site.

What you'll be doing each day

  • Handheld DSLR capture — Photographing objects from all angles using a Sony camera and ring flash, ensuring full coverage, consistent exposure, and sharp detail. You'll be scanning everything from mugs and tools to chairs, cupboards, and other items too large for our robotic capture systems.
  • Object handling & staging — Sourcing, moving, and positioning objects for scanning. Some of these are bulky — chairs, shelves, household furniture — so you'll need to be comfortable with the physical side of the work.
  • Maintaining capture quality — Following our capture protocols to ensure every scan meets the standard required for ML training data. Consistent lighting, overlap, and coverage matter enormously when your output feeds a neural network.
  • Working alongside robotic capture — Our Cricklewood studio runs two Rigster Arago robotic scanning systems operated by a dedicated scan operator. You'll have the opportunity to learn how these work and potentially assist with robotic capture workflows as you settle in.
  • Closing the loop — Flagging capture issues, communicating with the wider scanning and processing team, and helping us continuously improve how we collect data.

Must-Haves

  • Practical experience with a DSLR camera — ideally Sony, but any interchangeable-lens system counts
  • A solid understanding of how to photograph 3D objects for reconstruction: full angular coverage, consistent overlap, controlled lighting
  • Comfort working with a ring flash or similar on-camera lighting
  • Physically able to move and stage medium-to-large objects (furniture, props, etc.)
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and happy working on-site five days a week in Cricklewood
