In partnership with the Head of Cancer and core Cancer Team, the post holder will facilitate and develop Cancer Services at George Eliot Hospital as part of the West Midlands Cancer Alliance. The post holder will lead all cancer nursing services, acting as an ambassador for cancer nursing care, both within George Eliot Hospital and across organisational and professional boundaries, cultivating a diverse range of services to establish an integrated approach to patient care and delivering quality outcomes in Cancer, Palliative and End of Life Care.
The Lead Cancer Nurse will facilitate the translation of national policy into local delivery and will provide an expert nursing perspective in relation to the planning and delivery of cancer services across the cancer pathway.

- Use local, regional and national networks as a focus for professional and service development.
- Exercise leadership in the development of cancer care, to ensure it promotes health and empowers patients, clients and carers by offering appropriate health education information and advice which is culturally sensitive to their needs.
- Effect constant change in the best interests of the patients, staff and wider organisation preventing potential fragmentation and duplication across the developing models of care.
- Demonstrate effective leadership skills in developing patient centred clinical practice [which is patient centred and] irrelevant of the care setting to streamline the patient’s experience. The empowerment of patients and carers will be the focus of service development.
- Maintain an overview of the effectiveness of care and services delivered and advise George Eliot Hospital Nursing and Cancer nursing networks where improvements are required and how these might be managed.
- Lead a Cancer Nurse Forum to achieve agreed local, regional and national targets.
- Act as an Ambassador, ensuring standards for better health and infection control.
- Act as an expert resource person in the development of nursing practice regarding integrated models of care sharing expertise providing ad hoc support advice to teams as required; additionally promote the organisational developments locally.
