Lead Electrical Design Engineer

Oxfordshire - Hybrid


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to play a key role in delivering major high-voltage infrastructure projects across the UK. This position offers the chance to lead complex electrical designs within a regulated utility environment while working on projects that support the ongoing development of the UK's energy network.

As a senior engineering professional, you will take ownership of electrical design activities from concept through to detailed design, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and successful project delivery. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams, external design partners, and network stakeholders to develop innovative and practical engineering solutions for substation and network reinforcement projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and review of HV electrical designs from feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Manage and coordinate external design consultants and engineering partners.
  • Liaise with utility network stakeholders to secure technical approvals.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, and cable design teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practice.


About You

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Strong experience in HV substation design within utilities, DNO, ICP, or power infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of protection systems, earthing, transformers, switchgear, and power system design.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
