Lead Grid Manager - Solar, BESS, Onshore Wind


We are seeking an experienced Lead Grid Manager – Electrical Engineering & Power Systems to lead the grid connection strategy and technical delivery of a growing portfolio of utility scale Solar, BESS and Onshore Wind projects across England, Scotland and Wales.


This is a senior technical leadership position combining grid management, electrical engineering and power systems expertise. You will be responsible for taking projects through the full grid connection lifecycle, from early-stage feasibility and connection applications through to detailed design, construction, commissioning and energisation.


You will act as a technical authority on grid and power-system matters, working closely with DNOs, National Grid, Transmission Owners, ICPs, consultants, OEMs, EPC contractors and internal development, engineering and project teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical and grid connection strategy for Solar PV, BESS, Onshore Wind renewable energy projects.
  • Manage grid connection applications, offers and technical requirements with DNOs and transmission network operators.
  • Provide technical leadership across power systems engineering, network studies and grid compliance.
  • Review and challenge grid connection offers, including capacity, Point of Connection, reinforcement requirements, costs, liabilities and programme dates.
  • Lead and review power system studies covering load flow, fault level, voltage, reactive power, thermal constraints, harmonics and dynamic/stability performance.
  • Define and review electrical design requirements for renewable generation and energy storage projects.
  • Ensure projects meet applicable UK Grid Code, Distribution Code and network operator requirements.
  • Oversee the electrical interface between Solar PV modules, wind turbines, BESS, power conversion systems, transformers, substations and the wider transmission/distribution network.
  • Review technical documentation including single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, grid studies, connection designs and compliance documentation.
  • Manage external power systems consultants, specialist engineering advisers and technical contractors.
  • Lead technical discussions and negotiations with DNOs, National Grid, TOs, ICPs and other industry stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise grid capacity, connection costs, project design, system performance and delivery timescales.
  • Provide technical input into project development, financial modelling, investment decisions and grid due diligence.
  • Manage grid-related technical risks from early development through construction, commissioning and energisation.
  • Support the successful commissioning and grid compliance testing of renewable energy and BESS projects.
  • Keep the business informed of changes to the UK Grid Code, connection reform, network charging and evolving technical standards.


Electrical Engineering & Power Systems Focus

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in electrical engineering and power systems, with experience applying this knowledge to utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Relevant expertise should include:

  • Power system analysis and network studies.
  • Load flow and fault-level analysis.
  • Voltage control and reactive power management.
  • Grid stability and dynamic performance.
  • Protection and control systems.
  • Harmonic analysis and power quality.
  • Inverter-based resources and power electronics.
  • Grid-forming and grid-following technologies.
  • BESS power conversion systems.
  • Solar PV generation systems.
  • Wind turbine generator technology and grid interfaces.
  • HV/MV substations and grid connection infrastructure.
  • Transformers, switchgear and electrical protection.
  • Grid compliance and performance requirements.
  • Commissioning, testing and energisation.
