Lead Full Stack Engineer – Horse Racing

Location: Kennington, London (Hybrid – 3 days a week)

With ambitious growth plans, we are seeking an experienced Lead Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic Horse Racing team. You will design, implement and maintain software across our technology stack, while helping drive innovation, mentor engineers and ensure the scalability, performance, security and reliability of our platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and operation of data engineering platforms, AWS infrastructure and cloud-based products.
• Work with Product teams to translate business requirements into scalable data, cloud and infrastructure solutions.
• Design and implement secure, reliable and efficient solutions for ingesting, processing, storing and delivering data from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Data Science, UX and DevOps teams across infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment, platform reliability and release management.
• Drive technical delivery, team coordination and business continuity, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, resilience and platform stability.
• Contribute to new and existing platform capabilities, improving engineering processes, infrastructure automation, data quality and operational excellence.
• Lead and support critical Horse Racing events, ensuring system availability, performance, incident response and BAU continuity.
• Mentor engineers and promote strong engineering practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years’ commercial experience building scalable data pipelines, platforms and cloud-native solutions using Python, SQL and AWS.
• Experience with ETL/ELT, data ingestion frameworks and large-scale data processing.
• Strong understanding of distributed data systems, data modelling, data quality and performance optimisation.
• Strong hands-on AWS experience, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM and CloudWatch.
• Experience designing and managing secure, scalable and highly available cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery.
• Experience with relational databases, database design, optimisation, performance tuning, data integrity, migrations and large datasets.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Experience implementing monitoring, alerting, logging and operational support processes.
• Experience leading engineers, mentoring, conducting code/design reviews and driving technical best practice.
• Experience designing scalable, maintainable, secure and production-ready platforms.

Desirable: Knowledge of Horse Racing, its rules, major events and data; experience with React; exposure to NoSQL, graph or vector databases; and familiarity with AI-native engineering tools such as Cursor or Gemini.
