Location: to work across a network of libraries in the Allerdale area as required – Workington, Seaton, Silloth, Aspatria, Wigton, Maryport, Keswick and Cockermouth

Join our library team and make a real impact in your community! As a Library and Customer Assistant, you’ll be the first point of contact for visitors, helping them access books, information, and essential council services. From supporting digital skills to promoting literacy and learning, your role will enhance the experienceof every customer who walks through our doors.

You’ll provide excellent customer service, assist with library events and activities which may include reading and singing, maintain stock, and ensure a welcoming and engaging space for all. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about libraries, community engagement, and helping others use both print and digital resources. As you will regularly move between sites depending on service needs, the ability and willingness to travel frequently across the Allerdale area is essential for this role.

In some locations, you will work as part of a team of Library and Customer Assistants delivering day to day service and library support tasks. In others, you will usually be the sole member of library staff onsite and will be responsible for the service and building during working hours. You will need to be adaptable and confident working in different environments and flexibility to work across all sites is required.

Your working hours will be Monday 9am - 6pm, Tuesday 9am - 5pm, Wednesday 9am – 6pm, Friday 9am-5pm every week and Saturday 9.15am – 12pm, every other week (1 in 2). The Saturday shift will be at Keswick Library. Working locations for other days will vary depending on service need. Please note flexible working is not available as the hours are fixed to when the libraries are open.
