This is an excellent opportunity to use your engineering/building services experience in helping to provide an improved environment for the delivery of clinical care. This post will suit someone with a mechanical background.

Our focus on improving the Trust facilities and environment has created an opportunity for an individual to join a team of skilled trades people. You will provide an effective and efficient maintenance service to the engineering and mechanical services plant, equipment and the buildings of the trust.

Please note that this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the post.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of working in an engineering/building maintenance environment.

You will be working within a diverse and highly skilled team, helping to maintain and improve the critical infrastructure that supports frontline healthcare services.

You will play a vital role in ensuring our engineering systems, plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and compliant, enabling the delivery of exceptional patient care across the Trust.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory planned maintenance (SPM) activities on engineering plant, equipment and services.
  • Diagnosing faults, undertaking repairs and arranging the procurement of replacement parts where required.
  • Supporting the safe and efficient operation of critical hospital infrastructure, including steam systems, water treatment systems and electrical services.
  • Acting as a lead specialist for mechanical services and providing technical guidance to colleagues within the Estates team.
  • Understanding, interrogating and rectifying faults on the Building Management System (BMS).
  • Calibrating and maintaining complex mechanical and electrical installations.
  • Liaising with clinical and non-clinical departments regarding service interruptions, shutdowns and maintenance activities.
  • Producing condition reports and technical assessments to support lifecycle planning and future investment decisions.
  • Advising managers on minor engineering improvement works and assisting with project costing and planning.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and performance data.
  • Participating in the department's on-call rota and providing out-of-hours support when required.
  • Supporting the training, development and supervision of apprentices and other staff members.
  • Contributing to the Trust appraisal and professional development processes.
  • Working across Frimley Health sites as required

Technical Knowledge

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience relating to healthcare engineering standards, including:

  • HTM 01 – Decontamination
  • HTM 03 – Heating and Ventilation
  • HTM 04 – Water Systems
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Mechanical plant and building services maintenance
  • Safe systems of work and statutory compliance requirements

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Logical and organised
  • IT Literate
  • Evidence of good written and communication skills for effective working relationships throughout the organisation.
  • Ability to cope with demanding scenarios.
  • Good organisational and communication skills and ability to address and develop solutions to problems.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake emergency-situation repairs.

Desirable criteria

  • NHS experience
  • Knowledge of HTMs

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Level 3 City & Guilds Craft or NVQ equivalents in electrical installation/maintenance or equivalent experience

Special Requirements

Essential criteria

  • Be available for out of hours/on-call duties
  • Be able to travel between Trust sites when required
  • Be able to work overtime at short notice.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Prior experience in an engineering service
  • Experience in training colleagues in an Estates department
  • Experience working in the building trades
  • Experience working in large industrial/commercial environments

Desirable criteria

  • Service within the field of maintenance, focus on service supply, problem solving keeping the client informed.
