Join Our Team as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer – Avonmouth


Nisbets is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our growing Engineering team in Avonmouth. Reporting directly to the Automation Engineering Manager, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our site running smoothly and efficiently, working with a wide range of modern automation equipment including conveyors, AMR robots, and carton-handling machinery.


This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take the next step in a stable, supportive, and forward‑thinking business. You’ll be involved in all aspects of planned and reactive maintenance and will gain hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge automated systems.


Core Hours:

Monday – Friday, 14:45 – 23:45 (40 Hour week) with participation in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on automation equipment across the site.
  • Develop new skills and gain hands-on experience with advanced automated systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment faults quickly to minimise downtime.
  • Work safely at all times, adhering to company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Participate in an on‑call rota and occasional weekend cover (overtime available).
  • Collaborate closely with operational teams to maximise automation availability and reduce production impact.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure systems remain compliant and operational.
  • Complete thorough risk assessments and follow safe working practices throughout all tasks.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a multi‑skilled maintenance role.
  • Time‑served apprenticeship desirable but not essential.
  • Relevant qualifications such as ONC, NVQ Level 3, MS Elec, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of automation systems, including fault‑finding and troubleshooting.
  • Experience delivering both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to weekend work when required.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to safety.
  • Good IT capability, particularly with Microsoft Excel and general office applications.
  • Experience using CMMS software is an advantage but not essential.
