About the UN Global Compact Network UK

We are a dynamic multi-stakeholder initiative, dedicated to connecting UK companies to the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest responsible business initiative. The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, rooted in UN treaties, provide a robust foundation and comprehensive framework for corporate sustainability and business action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN Global Compact Network UK has over 900 participating companies, with a team of 26 people.

Our work is guided by the core values of the United Nations – Integrity, Respect for Diversity, and Professionalism – alongside nine additional values and behaviours of the UN Global Compact which can be found here. During a recent review, the team described our workplace as friendly, inclusive, supportive, passionate, and hard-working.

About the role

We are seeking a Participant Engagement Manager to join our dynamic team.

The Participant Engagement Manager is responsible for building and nurturing relationships with member organisations, ensuring they derive maximum value from their UN Global Compact Network UK participation. Working closely with Network participants, the role drives meaningful engagement with our programmes, supports sustainable business practices, and contributes to achieving our retention and growth objectives. The role sits within the Participant Engagement team and reports to the Senior Participant Engagement Manager.

We are looking for someone with

  • Knowledge and experience in corporate sustainability, ESG, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in membership engagement, customer success, stakeholder management, and business relationship management.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to present to diverse audiences, both in-person and virtually.
  • Strong analytical skills with solid proficiency in Salesforce CRM, Excel, and AI tools, with experience collecting and interpreting data. Able to produce clear reports that inform senior leadership decision-making on participant engagement and retention risks.
  • Drive to achieve retention KPIs and objectives, with a clear understanding of how individual performance contributes to the Network's growth.
  • Exceptional project management skills - able to manage multiple priorities, execute tasks effectively with minimal guidance, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with Asana or similar project management tools.
  • Skilled relationship builder, able to establish and maintain trusted, effective interactions with a range of stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and detail-oriented, with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a can-do attitude that thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Committed to the UN Global Compact's mission and principles.

Key Responsibilities - after onboarding, we will expect you to:

Participant Engagement & Retention

  • Manage a portfolio of member relationships, maintaining regular contact through calls, tailored follow-ups, and responsive query handling to maximise the value of their membership.
  • Develop tailored engagement plans aligned to each participant's sustainability priorities; track progress against retention KPIs and objectives, monitor renewal risk signals, and act proactively to address churn.
  • Collaborate with the UK Network Programmes team to identify relevant opportunities for participants, including speaking, hosting, and sponsorship.
  • Keep participants informed of global opportunities and liaise with the GCO to connect them to relevant events and initiatives.
  • Represent the Network at external events organised by the Network and 3rd party organisations, to support member retention and recruitment.
  • Support sponsorship outreach by identifying potential sponsors, tracking progress, and maintaining timely communications.
  • Support the Senior Participant Engagement Manager on strategy and planning, including pre-call research and follow-up.
  • Log all engagement activity in Salesforce, following best-practice guidance.

Participant Engagement Events

  • Plan and deliver in-person and virtual events, using Asana for project management; handle event promotion, speaker recruitment, and logistics.
  • Support the Senior Participant Engagement Manager in organising and delivering Annual General Meetings, The Summit and Kick-off Meetings, including session management, event promotion, host coordination, and logistics.
  • Host recurring member events including Members Breakfasts, Onboarding webinars, and CoP drop-in sessions.

Team Collaboration

  • Contribute actively to team meetings, sharing relevant updates and co-leading projects with colleagues; delegate tasks to the PE & Outreach Coordinator as appropriate.
  • Provide constructive feedback on organisational and team activities - including programmes, events, and internal processes — to help inform planning and continuous improvement.

As the UN Global Compact Network UK Secretariat is a small team with a broad remit, the post-holder may from time to time be asked to support other organisational activities.

What we offer:

  • Hybrid working – After onboarding, a minimum of two days in the office per week, working from home up to 3 days per week.
  • Flexible working, once discussed with your line manager. Our core/active hours are 10 am to 4 pm.
  • Compressed hours of 9-day fortnights in Summer.
  • Employee Assistance Programme for you and your immediate family.
  • 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays, increasing with length of service.
  • Three additional days off between Christmas and New Year, offered at the organisation’s discretion.
  • Menstruation and menopause leave.
  • Three additional days off for mission-related volunteering or sustainable travel.
  • Enhanced pension scheme after probation.
  • Enhanced sick leave.
  • Season ticket loan.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme and Bike-sharing Cycle Scheme.

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week).
