About the Role

247 Cars is recruiting reliable and caring Passenger Assistants to support children and young people travelling between their homes and schools or other educational settings.

The role primarily involves accompanying passengers on dedicated school transport routes and helping ensure that each journey is safe, comfortable and professionally managed.

Many of the passengers we support may have special educational needs and disabilities, additional support requirements, mobility needs or other vulnerabilities. Previous experience is useful but is not essential, as appropriate training will be provided.

This is a term-time position, ideal for people looking for part-time work that fits around the school calendar.

Key Responsibilities

As a Passenger Assistant, you will:

• Accompany children and young people during their home-to-school transport.
• Assist passengers when safely getting into and out of the vehicle.
• Make sure passengers are appropriately seated and secured before the vehicle moves.
• Support passengers with additional, mobility or special educational needs where required.
• Provide reassurance and appropriate assistance throughout the journey.
• Observe passenger wellbeing and respond appropriately to any concerns or incidents.
• Communicate professionally with drivers, parents, guardians, schools and the 247 Cars operations team.
• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and Local Authority transport requirements.
• Help maintain a calm, clean and safe environment inside the vehicle.
• Report incidents, safeguarding concerns, delays or other issues promptly.
• Be available for both the morning school run and afternoon return journey on your assigned working days.

Most routes involve:

Morning: Home to school

Afternoon: School to home

There is normally a break between the morning and afternoon journeys.

This is primarily Monday to Friday during school term time, although exact times vary depending on the passenger and route.

Who We Are Looking For

No previous experience is required, but priority will be given to applicants with a valid Council-issued Passenger Assistant badge or permit.

We are looking for people who are:

• Reliable and punctual.
• Patient, calm and responsible.
• Friendly and approachable.
• Comfortable working with children and young people.
• Able to communicate clearly in English.
• Sensitive to the needs of passengers with disabilities or additional needs.
• Able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
• Available consistently during school mornings and afternoons.
• Able to work independently while following company and Local Authority procedures.

Previous experience in school transport, SEND support, care work, education, healthcare, childcare or working with vulnerable people would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Safeguarding and Compliance

Because this role involves working with children, young people and potentially vulnerable passengers, successful applicants will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment and safeguarding checks.

Depending on the Local Authority and route, these may include:

• Enhanced DBS check.
• Right to Work verification.
• Safeguarding training.
• Passenger Assistant or Local Authority training.
• Identification and reference checks.
• Additional route-specific or passenger-specific training where required.

Employment and route allocation will be subject to successful completion of the relevant checks.
