Personal Assistant to NGED President

London, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 hour ago
About The Role

We're looking for a Personal Assistant to the NGED President to join National Grid Electricity Distribution.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of one of the UK's largest electricity distribution businesses, providing dedicated support to the President of National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED).

As a trusted partner to the President, you'll play a pivotal role in maximising their effectiveness, managing priorities, coordinating complex activities and ensuring the smooth running of a busy executive office. Working closely with the Chief of Staff, Executive Team and wider executive support community, you'll help ensure key business priorities are effectively coordinated across the organisation.

As the lead support partner to one of National Grid's most senior leaders, you'll operate in a highly visible environment where professionalism, discretion and strong stakeholder management are essential. You'll work collaboratively across the executive support network, helping to coordinate activity across the wider Executive Team while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and service.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, adapts quickly to changing priorities and takes pride in staying one step ahead. Success in this role will come from your initiative, emotional intelligence, attention to detail and ability to make informed decisions independently.

The role offers hybrid working, with an expectation of attending the office approximately two days per week at The Strand, London.

The role will also require occasional travel, typically once or twice per month, to executive meetings and business locations across our licence areas, including Warwick, Castle Donington and operational sites throughout the East Midlands, West Midlands, South West and Wales. As with any senior executive support role, a degree of flexibility is important to respond to changing priorities and occasional travel or diary-related issues outside normal working hours when required.

What You'll Do

As Personal Assistant to the President, you'll:

  • Manage a complex and ever-changing diary, coordinating meetings, appointments and key business activities.
  • Prioritise competing demands and ensure the President's time is used effectively.
  • Proactively manage the President's inbox, identifying priorities, drafting responses and ensuring actions are followed through.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements, including accommodation, transport and itineraries.
  • Anticipate potential issues and develop contingency plans to minimise disruption.
  • Organise and support high-profile meetings, conferences and events.
  • Prepare agendas, briefing papers and meeting materials to ensure the President is fully prepared.
  • Maintain oversight of key business priorities, governance meetings, deadlines and commitments.
  • Manage expenses, purchase orders, invoices and other administrative processes.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Build effective working relationships with senior leaders, executive support teams and external stakeholders.

About You

  • Proven Experience: Experience as a Personal or Executive Assistant, preferably at C-suite level, with the confidence to make appropriate decisions, resolve issues independently and know when escalation is required.
  • Business Awareness: Ability to understand organisational priorities, governance requirements and the wider stakeholder environment, using this context to anticipate requirements and manage priorities effectively.
  • Organisation and Coordination: Outstanding organisational skills with a keen eye for detail. Proven experience managing highly complex schedules, international or multi-location travel, competing priorities and last-minute changes.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional etiquette, with the confidence and judgement to draft clear, professional emails on behalf of the senior leader.
  • Digital Capability: Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint, with the ability to adopt new digital tools quickly.
  • Emotional Intelligence and Diplomacy: Manages relationships with senior stakeholders, internal teams, and external partners, adapting tone and building strong working relationships.
  • Discretion and Confidentiality: Demonstrates impeccable judgement when handling sensitive information, with a high level of integrity and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Collaborative Working: Ability to work effectively with a Chief of Staff, Executive Team and wider PA community, building strong relationships and coordinating priorities across a complex stakeholder network.
  • Flexibility: Ability to remain calm, responsive and effective under pressure in a highly visible and fast-changing environment, demonstrating a “can do” attitude to work.
