Portfolio Monitoring Executive

Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 8 hours ago

Are you an experienced banking, accountancy or finance professional looking to use your financial expertise to support and grow Welsh businesses?

The Development Bank of Wales is looking for a proactive individual to join our Portfolio Monitoring Team as a Portfolio Monitoring Executive. This is an exciting opportunity to manage and monitor a portfolio of business loans, supporting portfolio companies to achieve their potential.

You’ll build strong relationships with client businesses, maintaining a detailed understanding of their performance and financial position. Working closely with Senior Portfolio Executives and Portfolio Managers, you’ll analyse financial information, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and recommend appropriate actions to support effective portfolio management.

This role would suit someone with experience in banking, accountancy or a similar financial environment who combines strong technical skills with sound commercial judgement and a customer-focused approach.

What you'll be doing

  • Monitoring a portfolio of Development Bank loans and maintaining an up-to-date understanding of each client’s financial position.
  • Building effective relationships with client businesses through regular, tailored contact, including attending board meetings where appropriate.
  • Reviewing and analysing financial, commercial and management information to assess the performance of portfolio companies.
  • Developing appropriate action plans in collaboration with Senior Portfolio Executives and Portfolio Managers.
  • Conducting robust financial, commercial and management due diligence when considering follow-on investment opportunities.
  • Preparing balanced recommendations for additional investment for consideration by senior colleagues or the Investment Committee.
  • Identifying emerging risks, growth opportunities and ways to add value to portfolio companies.
  • Delivering a high standard of customer service and supporting good outcomes for customers, including those who may be vulnerable.

We’re particularly interested in individuals with strong banking or accountancy experience who can interpret complex financial information, manage client relationships and make balanced commercial recommendations.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working in a relationship-management role within banking or a similar financial environment.
  • Strong experience of analysing company financial information to a high standard.
  • A relevant professional qualification or suitable industry experience in banking or accountancy.
  • The ability to assess investment opportunities, identify risks and develop balanced recommendations.
  • Strong communication, influencing, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise time-critical and client-sensitive work.
  • A proactive, self-motivated and results-focused approach, alongside the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An understanding of company law and board procedures.
