About The Role

Our growing portfolio of HVDC interconnectors plays a critical role in enabling the flow of cleaner energy between the UK and neighbouring countries.
As we continue to expand and develop new connections, we're looking for a Principal Asset Engineer – Cables to help ensure the reliability, performance and long-term resilience of some of the UK's most strategically important energy infrastructure.
This is an exciting opportunity to take technical ownership of high-voltage cable assets across our interconnector portfolio, including IFA, IFA2, NSL and Viking Link, influencing asset strategy and helping shape the future of the UK's energy network.
Please note as presence will be required on site you must have a full UK driving licence and be able to drive.
It is desirable if you are based within the South due to the travel and coverage for the role.
What you'll do
As Principal Asset Engineer – Cables, you'll provide technical leadership across our onshore and offshore HVAC and HVDC cable systems, ensuring assets continue to deliver exceptional operational performance.

We're looking for an experienced engineer with strong technical expertise in high-voltage cable systems and a passion for asset management and continuous improvement.
You'll Ideally Have
A competitive salary between £61,416.00 - £72,671.00 per annum – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

What you'll do
As Principal Asset Engineer – Cables, you'll provide technical leadership across our onshore and offshore HVAC and HVDC cable systems, ensuring assets continue to deliver exceptional operational performance.
You'll be responsible for;
- Leading the development and implementation of cable asset management strategies across our interconnector portfolio.
- Acting as the technical authority for high-voltage cable systems, providing expert guidance across the business.
- Developing and maintaining technical standards, policies, specifications and engineering procedures.
- Driving asset health reviews and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and risk management.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of specialist cable projects, including subsea cable surveys and intervention activities.
- Providing technical leadership during investigations into asset failures and operational incidents.
- Contributing to long-term investment planning and financial forecasting for cable assets.
- Mentoring and supporting engineers across the wider engineering and operational teams.
- Working closely with internal stakeholders, external partners and international joint venture organisations to deliver engineering excellence.
We're looking for an experienced engineer with strong technical expertise in high-voltage cable systems and a passion for asset management and continuous improvement.
You'll Ideally Have
- Experience working within a high-voltage engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of AC and DC cable systems, including onshore and offshore applications.
- Experience developing engineering strategies, technical standards and asset management plans.
- A solid understanding of asset management principles and lifecycle decision-making.
- HND or degree (equivalent) in an engineering discipline
- Experience working on large, complex infrastructure or capital projects.
- Full UK Driving Licence
- IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health and Safety Qualification
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Experience of HV cable commissioning and testing activities.
- Experience managing contractors and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental performance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical information into practical solutions.
