About the Role:


The Production Team Leader is responsible for leading and supporting a team of operatives to safely deliver daily production targets while ensuring quality, compliance, and operational efficiency standards are met.

The role combines hands-on operational support with frontline leadership and accountability for shift performance.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Delivering Daily Production Targets

  • Lead the shift to achieve daily output, efficiency, and performance targets.
  • Monitor production KPIs (output, downtime, waste, OEE where applicable).
  • Ensure production plans are communicated clearly at shift start.
  • Identify and escalate issues that may impact targets.
  • Coordinate labour and resources to maintain workflow.
  • Support rapid problem-solving to minimise downtime.


2. Supporting & Leading Team Members

  • Provide day-to-day direction and supervision to production operatives.
  • Act as first point of contact for team queries and issues.
  • Support training and onboarding of new team members.
  • Coach and develop team members to improve performance.
  • Promote positive morale and teamwork.
  • Address minor performance concerns and escalate when required.


3. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all quality checks are carried out accurately and on time.
  • Verify completion of hourly/shift quality inspections.
  • Ensure correct documentation is completed and signed.
  • Stop production if quality standards are compromised.
  • Ensure correct product, batch codes, and packaging materials are used.
  • Support investigations into non-conformances and implement corrective actions.


4. Health & Safety

  • Promote a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure team members follow safe working procedures.
  • Conduct basic safety checks at start of shift.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
  • Ensure PPE compliance.


5. Operational Control

  • Allocate staff to production lines effectively.
  • Monitor machine performance and escalate maintenance issues.
  • Reduce waste and rework through proactive supervision.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards (5S).
  • Ensure materials are available and staged correctly.


6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Daily output vs target
  • Downtime levels
  • Quality errors / turnbacks
  • Waste levels
  • Safety incidents
  • Attendance & team engagement
