Position Title: Project Accountant – EPC & Business Development

Location: Glasgow, Scotland

Reports to: Finance Manager

Role Purpose

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Project Accountant to join our Finance team in Glasgow supporting the successful delivery of major Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects. The role of the Project Accountant has a variety of responsibilities, involving managing the financial activities of long-term high-value projects, ensuring accurate reporting, effective cost control and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

The role works closely with project managers, finance teams and wider stakeholders to monitor project financial performance and support informed decision-making. Therefore, this role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys building relationships across different teams and using financial data to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial management and reporting of EPC projects from initiation to completion.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, accruals, provisions and actual expenditure against approved budgets. Identifying cost overruns or unfavourable variances.
  • Manage project P&L and work as a Finance Business Partner with project owners.
  • Track direct labour, materials, subcontractor costs, overhead, and other project-related expenses.
  • Support cash-flow forecasting and project financial planning.
  • Work with Project teams to establish milestone/project completion % to recognise revenue.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial close activities.
  • Managing multi-currency reporting, FX exposure, and intercompany recharges.
  • Assist with audits and provide financial information when required.
  • Provide support to project teams in costing/accounting perspective at tendering stage.
  • Any ad hoc tasks to support the Head of Finance and Finance Manager. Provide general finance support to the Finance team.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Part qualified or newly qualified accountant (ACCA/ICAS/CIMA) with 3-5 years project accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction industry essential (ideally experience working with CIS and reverse charge).
  • Sound understanding of IFRS 15 Revenue Recognition.
  • Experience working in a Japanese company desirable.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and cost control preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have right to work in UK.

About Our Project In Port Of Nigg, Highland

Sumitomo Electric is one of the leading global manufacturers of state-of-the-art high-end electricity transmission

cables, up to and including 525kV HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) cable.

The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of £350M, will make a

significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission

infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond.

In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum

utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.

In a significant boost for the UK green energy supply chain, Sumitomo Electric has commenced construction

of its state-of-the-art subsea transmission cable factory in the Scottish Highlands.

The factory will supply critical elements for the reinforcement of the UK electricity transmission grid and for

connecting renewable energy production facilities to the grid.
