Project Engineer (MEICA)

Southern Water Framework – South East

We are looking for a MEICA Project Engineer to join our Environment Division, supporting the delivery of projects within the Southern Water AMP8 framework.

You will play a key role in delivering clean and wastewater non-infrastructure schemes, helping to coordinate Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (MEICA) activities across the full project lifecycle.

Working with the Project Manager and wider engineering team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects from design through to commissioning and handover, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.

What you'll be doing:

Project Delivery

  • Support MEICA engineering activities from design through to commissioning and handover
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, ICA and Civil disciplines
  • Contribute to project planning, progress tracking and reporting
  • Work with the delivery team to help meet programme, cost and quality targets

Design & Engineering Support

  • Assist with the review and coordination of MEICA design outputs
  • Work with design teams and suppliers to gather technical information
  • Take part in:
    • Design reviews
    • HAZOP / HAZID workshops
  • Help ensure designs are buildable, compliant and efficient

Procurement & Commercial

  • Support procurement of MEICA equipment and materials
  • Assist with preparation of subcontractor packages and orders
  • Track equipment and material deliveries against programme requirements
  • Contribute to cost tracking and reporting
  • Help identify and manage variations

Construction & Site Coordination

  • Work alongside Site Managers and subcontract partners to support delivery
  • Assist with coordination of MEICA installation activities
  • Support safe delivery and quality standards on site
  • Help resolve technical queries during construction

Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Support factory and site testing (FATs and SATs)
  • Assist with commissioning and system integration activities
  • Contribute to preparation of handover documentation, including:
    • As-built drawings
    • Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals
    • Commissioning records
  • Support client training where required

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Assist with preparation and review of RAMS and project documentation
  • Promote a positive and inclusive health and safety culture
  • Support compliance with:
    • Southern Water standards
    • Relevant industry regulations
  • Contribute to quality assurance through Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)

About you:

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience (including placements or early-career roles) in the water, utilities or infrastructure sector
  • Exposure to MEICA systems or multidisciplinary engineering environments
  • Strong technical understanding of preferred engineering discipline
  • Proficient working knowledge of:
    • Mechanical systems (e.g. pumps, valves, pipework)
    • Electrical systems (e.g. LV systems, MCCs)
    • ICA systems (e.g. instrumentation, PLC/SCADA)
  • Awareness of project lifecycle (design > construction > commissioning)
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills
  • Clear communication and collaborative working style
  • Willingness to learn and develop across MEICA disciplines
  • Proactive and solution-focused mindset
  • Commitment to health, safety and quality
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience working within AMP programmes or framework environments
  • Knowledge of Southern Water standards
  • Progress towards professional accreditation (e.g. IMechE, IET or equivalent)
  • CSCS card and EUSR Water Hygiene
