We're hiring: Proofreader – Architectural Specifications
We are looking for a meticulous and detail-driven Proofreader to review our specification documents before they are issued to our architect clients. You’ll be the final quality checkpoint, ensuring every document we send out is professional and error-free.
This is a genuinely flexible role. We are happy to consider part-time or full-time arrangements, flexible hours to suit your circumstances, and fully remote working, or from our London or Manchester offices.

Key Responsibilities:
- Proofread architectural specification documents prior to final issue, checking for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors and co-ordination.
- Ensure consistency in terminology, formatting, numbering, cross-references and document structure.
- Check adherence to our house QA/ QC procedures and client-specific formatting requirements.
- Flag ambiguities, inconsistencies or omissions to the specification writers for clarification.
- Verify document details such as project names, revision numbers, dates and headers/footers.
- Manage proofreading workload to meet project deadlines, liaising with the team on priorities.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of our quality assurance processes.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven proofreading experience, ideally with technical, legal or construction-related documents.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Excellent command of written English (UK conventions).
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and prioritise multiple projects and documents.
- Reliable and self-motivated.
Desirable:
- Experience with architectural, engineering or construction documentation (e.g., NBS specifications)
- Familiarity with construction terminology and specification structures (e.g., CAWS/Uniclass/ CSI classifications)
- Proofreading qualification (e.g., CIEP training)
- Experience working with international clients or documents prepared for overseas markets
