The aim of the post is to streamline the patient pathway to ensure rapid access to diagnostic imaging for all patients on a cancer pathway. The intention is to provide an imaging appointment on or as close as possible to the request date of the examination. The coordinator will then ensure the examination is reported as soon as possible following test, the target being seven days from request to report. This will require any possible delays to be highlighted and if necessary escalated to the Imaging Service Manager and Clinical Lead.

  • To use knowledge of national cancer waiting times targets and specialist knowledge to co-ordinate and manage the patient diagnostic pathway. This will include:
    • Reduce and maintain elements of cancer 62 day pathway by delivering rapid access to either diagnostic Imaging tests/results or appointments for 62 day pathway patients across the Trust.
    • To liaise with clinical specialities and cancer trackers to ensure the diagnostic imaging is efficiently planned and organised around the patient pathway to enable the 62 day target for treatment to be met.
    • Facilitate service improvement to streamline the patient journey and improve the quality of patient care.
