As a Fuel Research Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in advancing nuclear research that supports reactor safety, fuel performance, and long-term sustainability. Your work will directly contribute to our journey towards An Electric Britain, helping deliver reliable, low-carbon energy now and into the future.

This is a hybrid role, based from our #Gloucester office, offering flexibility to balance time at home with collaboration across teams, partners, and international stakeholders.

You’ll also have the opportunity to grow your expertise across reactor physics, fuel performance modelling, and advanced nuclear technologies, while building strong connections across industry and academia.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and supporting nuclear fuel and material science research activities
  • Developing and applying modelling approaches to understand nuclear fuel behaviour and degradation
  • Collaborating with internal teams, academic partners, and nuclear industry stakeholders
  • Coordinating research objectives and delivering outcomes aligned to stakeholder needs
  • Sharing technical insights to support innovation, safety, and continuous improvement

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Fuel Research Engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and translating research into practical outcomes. You’re confident working across teams and engaging with stakeholders. Are you experienced in…?

  • Proven experience working in nuclear fuel technology or nuclear material science within the nuclear industry
  • Applying modelling techniques within nuclear fuel behaviour, reactor systems, or material science
  • Working with external stakeholders including academic or industry partners on technical projects, utilising your strong organisation and communication skills
  • Delivering research or technical projects with clear, measurable outcomes or impact
  • Holding a scientific or engineering degree, with PhD-level study or equivalent extensive industry experience
