Main duties of the job We are looking for GPs who have: MRCGP qualification Registration on the GMC GP Register with a licence to practise Inclusion on an NHS National Performers List (England, Wales, or Northern Ireland), or eligibility and expectation to be included upon CCT (applications welcome from those nearing completion of training) UK-based eligibility to work (essential) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong clinical decision-making ability A genuine passion for patient care A commitment to continuous professional development About us The Avenue Surgery is situated in Moulsecoomb a suburb of Brighton, and we have approximately 6,900 patients. We provide a wide range of services including minor surgery, asthma and diabetes clinics, cervical screening, contraception and sexual health clinics, childhood immunisations, smoking cessation and ante and post-natal care. We also provide a young persons sexual health drop-in clinic for anyone under 25 years of age. Our patient demographics include a higher-than-average percentage population with income deprivation, and higher levels of unemployment compared to national and local averages. We also have a higher-than-average proportion of patients aged 20 24, with a large transient student population registered, as well as higher percentage of patients aged 5 to 18 years of age. The Avenue Surgery is a part of Sussex Primary Care (SPC) a GP Federation that came about in response to a need from GP Partners in local practices who were seeking a different future. In 2019 we took on our first two practices and now have seven practices and a remote GP service, SPC Connect, reflecting a combined list of over 50,000 patients. In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, will undertake a variety of duties including: Surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations on behalf of the Practice as well as referral letters and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner. Provide health promotion and advice, signposting patients to appropriate services to maximise their health and social functioning and their ability to self-manage their care. Be constantly mindful of the need for the provision of personalised care and population health, including reducing health inequalities and ensure that these are reflected in daily practice. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting patients, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations. Assess the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems taking appropriate action as necessary. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness taking appropriate action as necessary. Consult with patients and in line with current disease management protocols and care pathways, develop care plans for health related illnesses and share these in line with patient need and good information governance. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using IT systems. Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible) including EPS. Prescribe in accordance with locally agreed or nationally agreed prescribing formulary. Work in accordance with all relevant clinical guidelines, pathways and protocols. Responsible for tasks delegated to them, appropriate to their level of competence and expected to delegate tasks or responsibilities to other staff, as appropriate. In-hours duty doctor sessions; to be agreed. All General Practitioners are expected to participate in continuing professional development, annual GP appraisal, Revalidation and appropriate peer supervision and to remain up to date on professional developments as required by their professional body. GPs are actively encouraged to take their study leave entitlement in order to support the development needs identified in their PDP and appraisal. Undertake all requirements to remain on the Medical Performers List. Ensure that he/she remains up to date with and implements all relevant good clinical practice guidance (e.g. NICE guidance). Work in accordance with all relevant clinical pathways and protocols. Active engagement with professional development lead, to promote patient safety and quality of service. Participation in a range of clinical governance activities, including clinical audit and such quality improvement activities deemed necessary by either Sussex Primary Care or external accrediting bodies.
