Seed Coating Technologist
We are replacing synthetic polymer seed coatings with a high-performance natural polymer system. Hands-on technical role, direct access to leadership, real commercial scope.
THE ROLE
MarinaTex is developing a natural polymer seed coating platform to replace conventional synthetic polymer coatings in commercial agriculture. We need a Seed Technologist to lead this technically, working closely with the CEO and R&D team from formulation through to commercial validation.
Based at BioCity, Scotland, Central Belt location accessible from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Develop and optimise natural polymer coating systems: film coats, pellets, encrustations
• Evaluate coating performance against seed physiology, germination, and emergence requirements
• Assess compatibility with fungicide, insecticide, and biological seed treatment actives
• Run germination and vigor trials to ISTA standards; benchmark against incumbent synthetic polymer coatings
• Support technical engagement with seed companies and agrochemical partners
• Contribute to scale-up from lab and pilot to commercial-ready manufacturing processes
WHAT WE NEED
• Seed coating or film coat formulation experience at commercial or semi-commercial scale
• Degree in Seed Science, Crop Science, Agricultural Chemistry, or related discipline
• Understanding of seed physiology and coating interactions: imbibition, germination, and emergence
• Experience with cereals and broadacre crops in a seed treatment or agronomy context
• Skilled in trial design, statistical analysis, and design of experiments (DoE)
• Knowledge of seed treatment formulation chemistry and active ingredient compatibility
• Working knowledge of polymer or biopolymer systems, colloids, and coating film formation is a strong advantage
• Industry background at a seed treatment company or seed major, or established commercial seed industry network, is a strong advantage
• Familiarity with biological seed treatments, inoculants, biostimulants, or plant-beneficial microbes (PBMs) is advantageous
