The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Coating Specialist to provide technical leadership on coatings and corrosion protection systems across our production operations.
You will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring all coating processes meet strict quality, regulatory, and client standards. This role involves working cross-functionally with engineering, suppliers, and production teams to deliver robust, compliant, and high-performing coating solutions.

The Role

You will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring all coating processes meet strict quality, regulatory, and client standards. This role involves working cross-functionally with engineering, suppliers, and production teams to deliver robust, compliant, and high-performing coating solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on coatings for production and engineer-to-order projects
- Interpret and review client and project coating specifications
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors to develop effective coating solutions
- Verify surface preparation methods and cleanliness standards
- Carry out inspections of coating applications to ensure compliance
- Monitor environmental conditions affecting coating performance
- Measure and record wet and dry film thickness (WFT/DFT)
- Conduct and witness testing (adhesion, curing, holiday detection)
- Identify non-conformances and implement corrective actions
- Maintain detailed inspection reports, records, and documentation
- Support project handovers through final inspections and coating dossiers
- Act with authority to stop work where quality or safety standards are at risk
- Strong experience in coating inspection and surface treatment
- Proven experience with industrial coatings on steel or metallic substrates
- Background working within quality-driven environments and procedures
- Engineering degree, HND, or HNC (or equivalent STEM qualification)
- Experience within industries such as oil & gas, energy, marine, or heavy engineering (desirable)
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and continuous improvement methodologies (desirable)
- FROSIO Level 3
- AMPP (NACE/SSPC) CIP Level 2 or 3
- ICorr Level 2 or 3
- DIN Certified Coating Inspector
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- High attention to detail with a commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
- Confident in enforcing standards and resolving quality issues
- Excellent reporting and documentation skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Professional, proactive, and solution-focused approach
