Hnry offers a full digital accounting service for contractors, freelancers, and sole traders that handles… well, everything - automatic tax calculations and payments, invoicing, expenses, tax filings, and on-demand support from our team of accountants. We automate the entire financial process for independent earners, giving them the time they need to focus on their business, their family, and their mental wellbeing. We’re growing fast in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK - and we're always looking for great humans to join us as we do it.
As we grow, our risk and compliance processes need to evolve with us, staying practical, proportionate, and scalable.
This role sits at the centre of Hnry's compliance control environment. You will provide a second-line perspective on operational compliance work - reviewing, challenging, and quality-assuring the outputs of our compliance operations - ensuring we consistently meet our obligations as a Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorised agent - while also owning broader compliance responsibilities. You will report directly to the Head of Legal & Compliance.
🚀 Responsibilities
- Review and quality-assure the work of compliance operations, including incident investigations, KYC/AML and EDD decisions, and regulatory reporting.
- Identify patterns or systemic issues across operations and escalate findings to the Head of Legal & Compliance.
- Track remediation actions through to completion.
- Approve or escalate material compliance decisions before they are actioned.
- Manage the ongoing operation of Hnry’s risk and compliance framework across the UK (and supporting NZ and AU).
- Prepare and present structured risk reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance.
- Lead periodic control effectiveness reviews and horizon-scan for regulatory change.
- Support the operational oversight of AML or Financial Crime Compliance and other regulatory processes.
- Oversee and monitor customer due diligence, monitoring, and related processes to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
- Prepare and coordinate required regulatory reports and disclosures, ensuring appropriate internal review and approval prior to submission.
- Monitor regulatory developments across the FCA and assess operational impacts.
- Conduct internal reviews ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Review and approve process changes proposed by compliance operations before implementation, and drive your own enhancements, in consultation with the Head of Legal and Compliance.
- Ensure documentation and procedures remain current, accurate, and fit for a multi-jurisdictional environment.
🫵 You will:
- Have 5 plus years’ experience in risk, compliance, AML, or assurance within a regulated environment.
- Have demonstrated experience providing compliance oversight or second-line assurance of operational teams.
- Be comfortable operating with significant autonomy and making risk-based calls on matters of genuine complexity.
- Be experienced with AML processes and regulatory reporting.
- Be highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Be confident identifying issues and escalating appropriately.
- Have a clear and professional communication.
- Have a Degree in Law, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
Bonus points for the following:
- A postgraduate qualification or professional certification (e.g. ICA Certificate/Diploma in AML, ACAMS, CAMS, or equivalent).
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or a high growth environment.
- Prior experience being self-employed
- Familiarity with regulatory environments in Australia or New Zealand.

- We take a practical, risk-based approach, focusing our attention where it has the greatest impact.
- Compliance is a business partner at Hnry. We work alongside teams across the business to enable good decisions, not simply enforce rules.
