To support the clinical decision making of medical and nursing staff on the unit.To lead, in conjunction with the Consultant workforce, the education programme for junior doctors. To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.To conduct clinical practice by contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans. The successful candidate can make use of established datasets to explore their ideas.There are also opportunities to become NIHR associate principal investigator for several clinical trials in both critical care and perioperative medicine. The appointee will be expected to support the delivery a high-quality care to all the patients presenting to the department. To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff.To participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.To be fully compliant with UHS Trusts mandatory training requirements.To actively participate in the departmental education programme.To work within the framework of team decisions.To show initiative, enthusiasm, and flexibility.To be a senior member of the critical care team, providing support on the registrar / airway rota (ST3 level or above). To assess and admit critically ill adult patients to ICU, stabilise them, make a differential diagnosis and formulate an initial clinical plan. This will include initiating ventilation, vasopressors, renal support with advanced airway skills, and practical skills such as the insertion of arterial and central venous lines.To perform daily reviews on ICU patients and present findings to the duty Critical Care Consultant. Organise and interpret further investigations.To review critically unwell patients outside of the Critical care unit as directed by the duty Consultant and critical care outreach team.To support the learning and development of the wider critical care clinical teams.
