Senior Mental Health Liaison Practitioner
Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Hospital Liaison Clinician to work with the Scarborough Acute Hospital Liaison Service (AHLS) based at Scarborough General Hospital (SGH) for a fulltime permanent position. The AHLS Team work into A&E and the hospital wards, supporting adults with a range of mental health symptoms and safety needs. People referred to the AHLS Team may also have complex comorbid physical health and social needs. A special interest in alcohol and substance misuse is desirable. As a Band 6 you will be part of a dynamic, welcoming and professional multi-disciplinary team (MDT) that provides support, assessments and guidance to SGH. We will offer you training and supervision that ensures you have the knowledge and skills to enable you to effectively and safely assess and support service users presenting with complex mental health needs. We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and motivated clinician who is excited about working within a busy acute hospital A&E department and on acute hospital wards. You need to have the ability to work flexibly, autonomously, and to have effective communication skills, as you will be liaising in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a wide range of professional colleagues, including VCSE partners. 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework is essential at the time of applying. Main duties of the job This Band 6 post is open to registered professionals including: mental health nurses, dual qualified nurses, OT's, social workers. Daily core duties include: Liaising with staff in the acute hospital, supporting them with the management of the mental health and well-being of patients who have been admitted for physical health care, but who require support with new or existing mental health need. Responding to referrals asking for a mental state assessment for people presenting with an acute mental health problem in A&E or on the ward. There are clear response times and targets for the Team, which you will support us to continue to achieve. Being professionally accountable & responsible for giving specialist advice & support to facilitate the mental health care given to patients in the acute hospital. Presenting the views of patients and carers to the clinical teams in the acute hospital to facilitate collaborative working between all parties.Liaising with other professionals & agencies in the facilitation of a safe & effective plans of mental health care. Liaising with other professionals and agencies in the development & facilitation of safe & effective discharge plans - reducing hospital lengths of stay & readmission. Promoting the principles of the Recovery Model & Trauma Informed Care.Enhancing knowledge & skills in the field of mental ill health for staff employed in acute hospital through the provision of specialist advice & training.
